About Marissa

hello friend

Marissa Moss Photography was founded in 2010 after a soul searching three

months of travel through South America and thinking "what if..." for 10 +

hour bus rides from place to place.

I left a career I'd been working toward for years, through college and the early

years after graduation, to follow a hunch that I could make this thing work.

As I enter my tenth year photographing milestones and the magic of the

mundane, I'm as grateful as ever that I made that leap.

I love art and design and people and storytelling and planning and spontaneity, and photography seems to be just the right fit.

hello friend,
my story

my Story

I started my winding path toward photography at the University of Florida. I had an interest in art and design and worked toward a career in commercial interiors. I worked away in my studio classes, made some of the best friends I could ask for, joined a sorority, kept my high school boyfriend, and graduated with a design degree and a plan to move west to start my grown up life.

Michael (my then boyfriend / now husband) and I moved to Los Angeles shortly after graduation and I started, in what I thought would be my life-long career, working as a corporate interior designer. I loved it. I was happy and challenged and well-rested... but still restless.

As a few years went by, I came to know that I wanted a different path and a different place. We longed to make our way back home, to Tampa, and I felt a strong pull toward photography and entrepreneurship. After many, many conversations, and dreams (and nightmares), and lists, and plans, we made the leap back to Tampa and I launched my wedding and portrait business in 2010. It was one of the hardest and best decisions I’ve ever made.

This work provides me the pride of owning my own business, the flexibility to travel the world (when we find the time), the joy of working from home, and the benefit that provides while we raise our two girls. I get to do what I love every single day while supporting our family as my husband follows his own dream of becoming a commercial airline pilot. I am immensely grateful to every client who chooses me to document their very best days and their everyday life, which allows me to continue following this wonderful dream
