…some insight from kristin…

what was your favorite moment, or favorite part, of your wedding day?
The reception! Dancing with all of our friends and family was a blast!

is there anything you wish you had done differently when planning your wedding?
Maybe not do it during intern year of my pediatric residency and Orrin’s neurosurgery residency! Our schedules made things a bit more challenging, but in the end everything worked out perfectly in great part thanks to our awesome families.

which three vendors were most important to you when planning your wedding?
Caterer, DJ, Drinks! (and, of course, the photographer 🙂 )

what was your biggest wedding day savings? (and was it worth it?)
We opted not to do a “champagne” toast, which would have been an extra $500, and instead just had people toast with whatever drinks they had available during the speeches. Honestly, I don’t think anyone even noticed or missed the champagne.

what was your biggest wedding day splurge? (and was it worth it?)
The dress! And yes, so worth it!

what was the best advice you received when planning your wedding? (and did you listen?)
 I have two:
1. Our married friends all told us that the day flies by and can be very hectic, so just take a moment to step back, look around and really be “in the moment.” We are so glad we listened to them, it is really a whirlwind day but we felt like we were able to fully enjoy it, in part thanks to this advice!
2. Marissa told us about doing a first look and at first we were hesitant. We are pretty traditional, but based on what she told us we decided to go for it. We couldn’t have been happier with that choice. We were able to get over the initial nerves in a moment of privacy and fully get to enjoy the moment when we first saw each other. And then we got to go enjoy our cocktail hour with our guests. We wouldn’t have traded those moments for anything.

was there anything encountered during wedding planning that was unexpected?
So many details! I really think a person can’t fully comprehend how many tiny details there are until they are thrown into the process.

was there a moment(s) during your wedding day that surprised you?
Our DJ called us up to play the “shoe game” which was completely unexpected, but ended up being a favorite part of the wedding for many of our guests and a lot of fun and laughter for us too.

when you look back on your wedding day in 50 years, what do you think you’ll remember most?
The happiness I felt, the moment I first saw Orrin’s face, and the joy that it brought into our lives to have all of our loved ones all gathered in the same room.
