the egg cup meets the egg clacker

after an uproar of popular demand, i’m finally back with pictures of our san franciscan egg cup!

here she (he?) is, looking adorable.

and i thought if i’m actually writing a post dedicated to an egg cup, i might as well elaborate on why i felt the need to purchase said egg cup…

waaaay back in the day when we got married (okay, it was only 8 months ago) we had a german guest invited that sent a very german gift straight from germany: a clack punch-bell egg cracker.

yeah, i didn’t know what one was either, but apparently it requires owning an egg cup. i tried to use it without one, and it’s just not easy.

so, here are the players:

oh look, here comes michael to demonstrate. how convenient.

so, see that metal ball that michael has his fingers on? that actually moves up and down the length of the cracker. so, you lift it up to the very top (the little hat part stays on the egg) and then you let it go and – “clack” – your egg is cracked.

ideally, you would get a clean break…
but this time, we didn’t.

also, i don’t think you would ever normally do this with a raw egg. i use it on hardboiled eggs to get them started easily, and i see the value of using it for softboiled eggs to have a pretty presentation. but, we just did a raw egg for demonstration purposes.

so, now that you’ve seen all of this, i know you are thinking that this little demo was the most exciting thing to come out of our kitchen all night, but that is just not the case.
